The First Voice a Child Hears

Tuesday, May 5, 2026

In this episode of That Kevin Show, Kevin McCullough discusses the importance of mothers in shaping our lives.

He shares personal anecdotes about his own mother's influence and explores the scientific evidence supporting the critical role mothers play in a child's development.

also delves into the data showing that a mother's voice is the first and most consistent voice a child hears, and how this shapes their perception of the world. He also talks to KT McFarland about the current state of the Middle East and the implications of the US's actions in the region.

An excerpt from The First Voice a Child Hears on Townhall.com

Before a child ever learns to read, before they understand rules or consequences, before they can even form a complete sentence, there is a voice. Soft. Familiar. Repeated.

That voice becomes a reference point. A compass. And from a Christian worldview, none of this is surprising.

Scripture has always pointed to the importance of early instruction, of guidance rooted in relationship. “Train up a child in the way he should go…” isn’t just about discipline—it’s about formation in the earliest, most impressionable years. And who is most often doing that training?

Mom.

Not alone, of course. Fathers matter deeply. Family matters collectively. But there is something uniquely powerful about the role a mother plays in those first interactions with life itself. She is, quite literally, the introduction to the world. Which makes what we do with that role—as individuals and as a culture—far more important than we tend to admit. Because if we get those early years right, a lot of what comes later becomes easier. And if we get them wrong, we spend decades trying to repair what should have been built from the beginning.

That’s not hyperbole. That’s reality.

So, when we talk about mothers this week, we’re not talking about sentiment. We’re talking about influence. The kind that doesn’t make headlines, doesn’t trend, doesn’t get measured in quarterly reports—but quietly shapes everything that follows.

It starts with a voice.

Simple. Familiar. Consistent. And if that voice is steady, loving, and present-… it echoes for a lifetime.

Breaking News: Moms Matter

Monday, May 4, 2026

Welcome to That Kevin Show, where we're celebrating Mother's Week

Kevin McCullough kicks off the week by sharing his personal story of how his mom's unwavering presence and dedication shaped his life.

He highlights the importance of mothers in our lives, citing research that shows children who grow up with engaged, present mothers are more likely to thrive emotionally, academically, and socially.

Kevin also shares his own experiences of being homeschooled by his mom and how it impacted his academic and personal growth. This episode sets the tone for a week-long celebration of mothers and their invaluable contributions.

An Excerpt from Breaking News: Moms Matter on Townhall.com

We're going to spend this week talking about something our culture treats like a footnote—and then wonders why everything else feels off. We’re going to talk about mothers.

Not the once-a-year version with flowers and brunch and a quick post before we move on. Not the soft-focus, Hallmark version that feels nice but doesn’t ask much of us. I mean the real thing.

The woman who is there when no one is watching. The one who builds a life in the quiet places—before anyone else ever sees the result.

Foundational. Irreplaceable. Civilization-sustaining.

And if that sounds dramatic, it’s only because we’ve spent a long time pretending it isn’t true.

So this week, six columns. We’ll start here—with the big picture. Then we’ll move closer: the earliest years of a child’s life, the spiritual design behind motherhood, the consequences when it’s missing, the unseen work that rarely gets applause, and finally—on Mother’s Day itself—the legacy that outlives everything else we chase.

But before any of that, we need to deal with reality. Because reality isn’t subtle on this subject.

Children who grow up with an engaged, present mother are far more likely to thrive—emotionally, academically, socially. That’s not a slogan. That’s what decades of research have shown. Early maternal involvement is tied to stronger language development, healthier emotional regulation, and better long-term outcomes in school and life.

And those first few years? They matter more than most of us realize.

Checkmate: Trump's Real Leverage

Wednesday, April 29, 2026

Additionally, Kevin talks about the work of Food for the Poor, an organization providing life-saving food and water to children in need.

An Excerpt from Checkmate: Trump's Real Leverage on Townhall.com

Strip away the noise for a moment—the commentary, the hot takes, the endless predictions of disaster—and look at the board as it actually sits.

China needs energy. Not in theory. Not as a long-term aspiration. Right now.

Its economy runs on imported fuel, much of it moving through the most volatile waterways on the planet. Roughly half of China’s imported energy flows through the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz. That’s not just geography. That’s vulnerability.

And in the last few weeks, that vulnerability has been exposed.

So when President Trump sits down with China, he is not walking in empty-handed. He is holding something Beijing cannot easily replace: stable, scalable, sanction-proof American energy.

That’s the leverage. And if it’s used correctly, it doesn’t just reshape a trade relationship. It rewrites the balance of power across two active conflict zones and two hostile regimes that have been leaning on China to survive. Start with Iran.

The Iranian regime has been propped up economically by one primary customer—China. Discounted oil, shipped through shadow fleets, laundered through intermediaries, tolerated because Beijing needed the supply and didn’t mind the political friction.

But that arrangement only works if China has no better option.

Give China access to long-term American LNG at scale, and suddenly Iran goes from essential supplier to expendable risk. No more discount is deep enough to justify the instability. No more back-channel transactions are worth the exposure when a cleaner, safer supply is on the table.

Why Dems LOVE to Stoke It

Wednesday, April 29, 2026

He's joined by Allen Mendenhall, a PhD Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, who shares his insights on the case and the potential consequences for the SPLC. They also discuss the importance of states' rights and the role of the EPA in regulating chemicals like glyphosate.

Kevin also talks to Jennifer Galardi about the Supreme Court case involving the EPA and the potential impact on consumers' access to information about chemical safety.

An Excerpt from Why Dems LOVE to Stoke It on Townhall.com

There is a pattern now. Not an accident. Not a coincidence. A pattern.

Say something reckless, watch the temperature rise, act surprised when something breaks—and then, because apparently nothing was learned, do it again.

If that sounds harsh, just look at what happened this week.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said something that shouldn’t even be controversial: rhetoric matters. When people in positions of power constantly frame their opponents as existential threats or enemies, they aren’t calming anything down. They’re pouring fuel on it. That’s just reality.

But instead of taking the hint—maybe dialing things back even a notch—House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries went the other direction entirely. He leaned in. “Maximum warfare,” he said.

And if anyone was tempted to give him the benefit of the doubt—to assume he meant it in some careful, political, metaphorical way—he cleared that up himself. He doesn’t “give a damn.”

Not about the criticism. Not about the concern. Not even about the fact that we’re living in a moment where political violence isn’t theoretical anymore. He said it anyway.

And honestly, that tells you more than any press release ever could. Because this isn’t about one quote or one bad day. It’s about a mindset that’s taken hold in certain corners of our politics—a belief that the rules don’t really apply to them, that their words don’t carry consequences, that their cause is so righteous that anything they say in service of it is automatically justified.

Until something happens.

Then suddenly the tone shifts. Everything becomes tragic, serious, somber. You get the speeches about unity, the reminders that “this isn’t who we are.” Except… it is. At least it has become that for some people.

Fire Senator Chris Murphy!

Wednesday, April 22, 2026

In this episode of That KEVIN Show, Kevin McCullough discusses the importance of standing up for what's right with his listeners.

He shares his thoughts on Senator Chris Murphy's recent comments about Iran and the need for accountability. Kevin also talks about the ongoing situation in Iran, including the capture of two tankers and the UK's response.

He emphasizes the need for the US to be victorious in Iran and for Senator Murphy to resign due to his perceived support for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Kevin encourages his listeners to call the Capitol switchboard to express their opinions.

An Excerpt from Fire Senator Chris Murphy! on Townhall.com

I have family serving in the United States Navy right now.

Active duty. Wearing the uniform. Standing watch. Doing the job that most politicians only reference when it’s convenient for a speech.

So, I’m going to say this as plainly as it can be said. If you are in elected office in the United States of America, you do not get to—even for a second—appear to celebrate the success of a regime actively opposing American forces.

You don’t get to. And yet, that is exactly what Democrat Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy did.

When a report circulated claiming that Iranian “shadow fleet” vessels had slipped past a U.S. naval blockade, Murphy responded with one word: “Awesome.”

Let’s pause right there. Because this matters.

That report—later pushed as Iranian propaganda and denied by U.S. officials—suggested that Iran had outmaneuvered American forces at sea.

And the reaction from a sitting United States senator was not concern. Not skepticism. Not “let’s verify this.” It was applause.

Now, after the backlash hit—hard and fast—Murphy claimed it was “sarcasm.” Of course it was. It’s always sarcasm after the fact. But here’s the problem—and it’s not a small one.

When American sailors are deployed… when a naval blockade is actively being enforced… when tensions are high, and stakes are real…

You don’t get to be “sarcastic” about the enemy winning. You just don’t. Because words matter.

And if you don’t understand that, you don’t belong anywhere near foreign policy.

GUEST: Dr. Michael Youssef New Book: An Unholy Alliance

You’ve seen the wave of extremism sweeping through universities, the media, politics, and even the church. Pro-Hamas demonstrations on college campuses. Islamic strongholds emerging in American cities. Progressive elites defending movements that would silence them. Behind the chaos lies a shocking truth.

Radical Islamists and radical Progressives—groups that fundamentally oppose one another— have forged an unholy alliance. But one common goal unites them: the dismantling of Western Judeo-Christian civilization.

In An Unholy Alliance, Dr. Michael Youssef draws from extensive research and his upbringing in a culture subjugated by Islamic invaders, revealing how this unlikely alliance is advancing through deception, intimidation, and unchecked cultural influence.

Inside, you’ll discover:

  • How radical Islamists and Progressives are working to undermine faith and freedom across the West.
  • How foreign funding, political correctness, and institutional cowardice are opening the door to Islamist infiltration.
  • The 1,400-year backstory behind today’s cultural jihad, and why Sharia law is incompatible with Biblical Truth and Western freedom.
  • What Muslims believe and how to effectively reach them for Christ.
  • A 12-point action plan, including ways to protect young minds from indoctrination and become more confident in your witness.

This is Dr. Youssef’s most urgent message in 50 years—a wake-up call the Church cannot afford to ignore. Read it—and be ready.

Why America Needs to Read the Bible

Tuesday, April 21, 2026

On this episode of The Kevin McCullough Show, Kevin dives into the top headlines of the day, including the latest on the US-Iran conflict and the upcoming peace talks in Islamabad.

He's joined by Rear Admiral Peter Brown, who shares insights on the Navy's blockade and the strategic implications of the situation.

Kevin also discusses the importance of reading the Bible aloud, as part of the America Reads the Bible initiative, and talks to Emily Sturge from Campus Reform about the growing trend of anti-American protests on college campuses.

HOW DO WE LIVE: Pastor Nehru Grant, Lead Pastor of Echo Grace Church in Warwick, New York discusses The Theology of Disability & Woundedness.

An Excerpt from Why America Needs to Read the Bible:

This week, nearly 500 leading Americans will gather to do something both simple and profound: read the Bible aloud—from beginning to end.

No skipping the “begats.” No glossing over Leviticus. No ignoring Creation, the Virgin Birth, the Resurrection, or Christ’s promised return.

Every word. Publicly read. In full view—and within earshot—of the American people.

Participants will include voices from government, media, business, and culture. And yes, perhaps even a few who disagree with what they are reading.

How will we ever cope? The truth is public readings of Scripture are not new. They are, in fact, ancient.

That’s why this week matters. Not because it will solve every problem overnight. Not because every listener will suddenly agree with every word. But because, in a time of confusion, division, and historical amnesia, it points us back to something enduring.

Something steady. Something true. I am personally humbled to be among those participating in this reading. My portion doesn’t come until next Saturday, but I hope Americans won’t wait until then to tune in. Salem Radio and Great American TV will be providing coverage, and the entire reading will be available to listen to online.

For a nation approaching its 250th year, this moment feels particularly fitting.
