Grace is an amazing thing. God’s grace saved our souls for eternity, but God often shows up with daily graces, too. The important thing is to have a soft heart and an attentive spirit to see them. Grace is God doing for us what we could never do ourselves. It’s preparing for our rescue.

I began writing my “rescue” journals years ago, and I’m always finding new blessings to write down. This is a particularly big “rescue” that has stuck with me through the years and reminded me of God’s love and grace.

Creating Your Personal Rescue Journal

Our family witnessed God’s grace years ago when we moved to Arkansas by providing a house. We moved from Montana twelve years ago, and the hardest part was settling down. The first condo we rented—sight unseen—was old and moldy.

We moved into a nice apartment after that, but when my grandmother decided to move back in with us, we didn’t have enough room, so we chose to move. After that, we found a large, spacious house, but it was old, drafty, and expensive to heat and cool.

I was thankful, but my heart hadn’t settled. There were many wonderful houses in the area, but with my husband’s new ministry position, the cost was out of reach. So I started praying.

2 Peter 2:9

The answer came in an unexpected way. I offered a book to a new friend, and when she came by to get it, I asked if she happened to know of a house that would fit our large family. Not only did she know of one, she owned one!

Because of her husband’s job, they had to move across town. The house was a perfect fit and the right price. And our presence there was an answer to her prayers for good renters, too.

Are you facing a trial today? God not only knows how to rescue you, but He has a plan for that very thing. The rescue may look different than you imagine, but His way is perfect. Trust Him in that.

Ready to create your own “rescue” journal?

Start today by writing down how God shows up and answers your prayers. Every day, add to your journal. Each page—each entry—will increase your faith!

Five Steps to Create Your Rescue Journal:

  1. Choose Your Journal: Pick a journal that resonates with you. It can be a beautifully bound notebook, a simple spiral-bound pad, or even a Word document. The important part is that it feels comfortable to write in.
  2. Start with Scripture: Begin each entry with a Bible verse that speaks to you of God’s faithfulness. Verses like 2 Peter 2:9 or Psalm 34:17 can serve as reminders of God’s promises to never abandon us and to always be close in times of trouble.
  3. Reflect on Past Rescues: Take some time to reflect on times where you’ve seen God work in your life. Write down these memories, no matter how small they might seem. These memories are the foundation of your journal, creating points for you to build from.
  4. Daily Entries: Make it a habit to write in your journal every day, if possible. These entries don’t have to be pages long; just jot down the ways God shows up in your life each day, whether it’s a big answer to prayer or a small blessing. Over time, you’ll see a pattern of God’s faithfulness.
  5. Prayer and Praise: End each entry with a prayer of thanks and praise for what God has done and continues to do in your life. This builds your faith, your relationship with God, and is sure to lift your spirits. After all, a thankful heart is a happy heart!

Find a  moment today to start your rescue journal. Write down one situation where you felt God’s grace and saw His plans come to fruition. Continue this practice daily, and watch how your faith grows as you observe His rescuing hand in your life.
