Before God deals with other human relationships, He begins with family. “Honor your father and your mother.” Family is very important to God. Few things can bring us as much pleasure in life as our families. And few things can bring us as much pain in life as our families.
Go to God before you go to people. Ask Him for what you need then trust Him to provide it. God loves you with all His Heart. He wants you to trust Him just like a child trusts Him as their Heavenly Father.
What would marriage be like if we never conversed? What would it be like never sharing our feelings or our daily experiences with each other? What if we always sat silently in front of the TV? We wouldn’t have much of a relationship. We would be two people co-existing. Roommates. Business partners.
Heartache can make us feel lonely as if no one cares or understands what we’re going through. Those negative thoughts mislead us into thinking God isn’t there, and we are left to struggle alone. But the soul-satisfying truth is that God wants to see us whole. He is a God who heals, comforts, and restores our brokenness.
I made a decision years ago not to let bitterness consume me. Some days, it’s hard… really hard. Some days, it’s a challenge to remember the forgiveness He pours out on me, the forgiveness I’m expected to give others. But it’s the right way, the best way, the only way.
We’re safer with God in a storm than anywhere else without Him. I would rather be with Jesus in a storm than in the plushest, most luxurious place on earth without Him.
In case you need this reminder today, if you are following the Lord, you will not miss out on anything He has for you. Look around you. Look at where you find yourself right now. Perhaps life isn’t perfect. It never is.
Obedience is much easier when we’re living topped off and spiritually refueled. When we are consistent in connecting with God, our hearts are full and we’ll desire to live a consistent (non-compartmentalized) faith.
We can trust God because He is fully reliable, faithful, and trustworthy. Take your prayers to Him today and ask Him to reveal His plans for your life.
